Summary: A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location, with excellent amenities, but sadly our experience was badly let down by the service. On arrival, despite check-in already being finished, we were left standing around for around 20 minutes by a rather unfriendly and unhelpful receptionist. After finally being given our key and taking our luggage all the way to the top floor, we opened the door to find other guests already staying in the room — we had been checked into the wrong room. There was very little in the way of an apology, which was particularly disappointing after a long and tiring journey. Unfortunately, dinner that evening was equally chaotic; there appeared to be a shortage of staff, steaks arrived without the sauces ordered, a salad never appeared, and the whole experience was well below the standard we expected. Staff generally looked rather scruffy, with no uniforms, and the manager in particular seemed disengaged and unconcerned. Thankfully, the following morning was a completely different experience: the new receptionist was absolutely brilliant, genuinely shocked when we explained what had happened, and couldn’t have been more helpful. Such a shame, as the hotel itself and its location are superb — with better management, organisation and attention to service, it could be exceptional.
